It's with heavy hearts we share news that Pure Water for the World, Inc. (PWW), a valued partner of Aerie for over two decades, has announced its forthcoming closure. For 24 years, PWW has been a beacon of hope and transformation in the most rural and underserved communities of Haiti and Honduras, dedicating itself to implementing comprehensive safe water, sanitation, and hygiene education programs.
The decision to close reflects the challenging economic environment and fundraising pressures that have made it increasingly difficult for PWW to sustain its vital programs. With operations winding down by December 31, 2023, in Haiti, and June 30, 2024, in Honduras, PWW is committed to fulfilling its existing program commitments, ensuring a responsible and impactful transition.
Throughout its operation, PWW’s impact has been profound. Serving over 925,000 individuals across more than 750 communities in Haiti and Central America, their achievements include the installation of over 20,000 safe water filters, construction of more than 3,000 bathroom facilities, and delivery of critical water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) training to thousands of families, teachers, and other entities. These efforts have not only improved health outcomes but have also laid the groundwork for sustainable development in these regions.
Dave Fisher, from Aerie, has personally participated in multiple mission trips with PWW. His firsthand experiences with the communities they serve and the tangible difference their work makes have been nothing short of life-changing. Dave’s journeys have highlighted the power of partnership and the immeasurable impact of working hand in hand with communities to address fundamental needs like clean water and sanitation.
PWW’s closure marks the end of an era but also a moment to celebrate the incredible achievements and lasting legacy of an organization that has genuinely transformed lives. In the coming weeks, PWW plans to connect with other nonprofits to contribute its assets and resources and facilitate employment opportunities for its devoted staff, many of whom have dedicated over 15 years to the mission.
We at Aerie are deeply grateful for our partnership with PWW. The lessons learned and the shared commitment to making a positive difference in the world will continue to inspire us. We join PWW in thanking their donor community, volunteers, and partners for their support over the years. The legacy of PWW will live on, not only in the water systems and sanitary facilities they've built but in the empowered communities they leave behind, equipped with the knowledge and tools for a healthier future.
As we bid farewell to Pure Water for the World, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting initiatives that create meaningful, sustainable change. We welcome our community to join us in this commitment, honoring PWW's legacy by continuing to strive for a world where everyone has access to the most basic necessities of life.
To all who have been part of Pure Water for the World's remarkable journey, thank you. Your generosity, commitment, and passion have illuminated the path to a brighter future for countless individuals and communities.
